Crime Drop
Major US cities saw steep declines in violent crime in 2025, according to new data from law enforcement agencies.
Context
Violent crime spiked across the country during the pandemic but began declining in recent years. The trend accelerated in 2025, with multiple reports showing drops across categories, including homicides, robberies, rapes, and aggravated assaults.
Historic Decline
A report from the Major Cities Chiefs Association last week analyzed data from 67 of the nation’s largest law enforcement agencies and found homicides fell just over 19% in 2025 compared to 2024.
