Tensions Eased
A phone call between President Trump and Colombian President Gustavo Petro eased tensions after Trump threatened military action against Colombia, the NYT reported.
Context
Following the US military operation in Venezuela, Trump threatened military action against Colombia and called Petro a “sick man” who makes cocaine to send to the US. Trump said that invading Colombia “sounds good” to him. Petro responded by calling on Colombians to defend him and their country’s sovereignty.

On Wednesday night, Trump spoke with Petro in a phone call that lasted 55 minutes and was reportedly brokered by Senator Rand Paul (KY).
