Trump Rejects Deal
President Trump reportedly turned down a proposal that could have ended the weeks-long partial government shutdown over Department of Homeland Security (DHS) funding.
Proposal Denied
Over the weekend, Senate Majority Leader John Thune (R-SD) pitched a plan to fund all of DHS except ICE through a simple-majority vote, but Trump rejected it.
Trump indicated he would only accept a deal paired with the SAVE America Act, which would tighten voter ID requirements and restrict mail-in voting. Trump told his negotiators, “Don’t settle, because we have something bigger, only settle if you get the SAVE America Act.”
