Stocks Slide
Video game companies experienced significant stock drops after Google released an AI tool that generates playable game worlds.
Context
Video game development traditionally relies on software frameworks called game engines, such as Unity and Unreal Engine. These softwares provide many video game developers with the necessary tools, like physics, rendering, and sound, to build games. Google’s tool – Project Genie – is a prototype software that allows users to create interactive game worlds by typing text prompts or uploading images.
Market Reaction
Following the release of Google’s prototype Project Genie last week, several video game companies on the Nasdaq stock exchange saw large price declines.
