Context
Since Maduro’s ouster, President Trump and other officials have restated their desire to make Greenland American territory.
The island holds strategic importance due to its location, natural resources, and an existing US military base, but Denmark has controlled it for more than 300 years.
Military Force
On Tuesday, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the administration was “discussing a range of options” and that “utilizing the US military is always an option at the commander in chief’s disposal.” Homeland Security Adviser Stephen Miller said, “Nobody’s going to fight the United States militarily over the future of Greenland.”
