Personnel Deployed
The Trump Administration sent over 2,000 Department of Homeland Security (DHS) agents to Minneapolis for a month-long operation.
Context
Federal prosecutors have brought charges against over 90 people in Minnesota for social service fraud since 2021, with more than 60 convicted. The most prominent case involved dozens of people, mostly from Minnesota’s Somali community, who were accused of stealing hundreds of millions from a pandemic-era child nutrition program. Conservative journalist and YouTuber Nick Shirley also recently released a now-viral video alleging millions of dollars of daycare fraud in Minnesota, intensifying the scandal.
Deployment Details
This week, the Trump Administration began a deployment of about 1,500 ICE deportation officers and 600 investigative agents to Minneapolis to investigate fraud cases and make immigration arrests.
