New Guidelines
The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) released its own childhood vaccine schedule, breaking with federal guidelines for the first time.
Context
The AAP and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) had coordinated their childhood immunization guidance for decades, providing unified recommendations on which shots children should receive at various ages. Earlier this month, the CDC reduced its vaccine recommendations to cover 11 diseases instead of 17, a change Health Secretary RFK Jr. said aligned the US with other nations and strengthened informed consent.
Independent Schedule
On Monday, the AAP published its own recommendations and announced it wouldn’t endorse the CDC’s childhood vaccine schedule.
