Bid Dropped
Minnesota Governor Tim Walz (D) announced that he will not seek reelection.
Context
More than 90 people have been charged in Minnesota in what authorities say is among the largest Covid-era fraud cases nationwide. The cases center on a nonprofit called Feeding Our Future that took advantage of a federal child-nutrition program meant for pandemic relief. Conservative journalist and YouTuber Nick Shirley recently released a now-viral video alleging millions of dollars of daycare fraud in Minnesota, intensifying pressure on Walz. The total amount remains under investigation, but some estimate up to billions of dollars have been stolen.
Exit Announced
Walz announced on Monday that he could no longer devote his full attention to a reelection campaign while addressing the state’s challenges.
