I've been researching deeply into this topic and what human capacities we have lost to this.

Please do check out my letters.šŸ™šŸ¼

Lopez is also under investigation for running a Ponzi scheme, so that should tell you all you need to know. "optimizing" is another word for "perfection." No person is perfect, nor would you ever want to meet that perfect person. To err is human, as they say. Life is all about learning from failure and improving. That doesn't mean you don't try, but it also means that you really need to take stock of what is truly important to YOU. Not what others say is important, not what your parents tell you is, or society in general. If being economically successful or having even having a family is not something that is truly important to you, why do it? To make people around you not kick you out of the tribe (evolutionarily speaking). Luckily, we don't have those limited options of doing what everyone says we have to or going out into the wilderness anymore...

The article is great, but I think it should first specifically identify the target audience for that reflection piece. Some people (who I believe are in the minority) do need to read it and chill out a bit. However, I think the majority of people are under-optimisers. Considering how plentiful victimhood culture is, as well as the aversion to responsibility, a lot more people need to take more control over their lives, not to loosen up.

Great article. I think the biggest area I struggle with in regard to optimization is having little kids. I find myself rushing through being present or playing with them because I have a never ending list in my head of things I could be doing instead- laundry, dishes, emails, etc. It's very guilt provoking but I try to give myself grace because well, all those things do need to happen. It's a tough balance. Also recently my remote work from home job has turned into big brother where they are doing everything they can to micromanage or "optimize" our work day by stalking us then critiquing if we aren't on a new call within 3 minutes. It's exhausting and has ran off a lot of my co-workers that I'm shocked headquarters management hasn't noticed or stepped in. Also, side note- I have an Oura ring and really like it but I also don't check it everyday. I use it for temperature tracking and my cycle which has been game changing in my personal health to get off hormonal birth control. But my sister in law became like smeegle from LOTR and had to return hers within 2 weeks because she was obsessing so bad.

These life coaches and "influencers" as just so much happy horsesh*t.

Live YOUR life. Don't try to live someone else's, especially when all you see if their life is a carefully curated version of it.

These people remind me of the ones who become addicted to Self Help books. And then going to every Tony Robbins convention. That's not life. That's, at best, practicing life.

I remember doing this when Fitbit first came out. It was really so silly. I know how far I was walking but I was relying on a device to tell me. My job had a program that offered money for top people so I only participated until they stopped doing that.

I have been annoyed by this culture since it started! Why do you need an app to tell you how you slept--know your body! I hope people will let go of this structured lifestyle, no wonder everyone is so anxious

So does this mean I no longer have to worry about keeping my ROCA Streak alive???

What a good way to start my Friday! This is true in every aspect, how we get caught up in trying to be perfect. I’ve done that my whole life with dieting and finally this past year with the help of a nutritionist I started eating for satisfaction and not optimizing every single meal for calories or health. My relationship with food has gotten much better. I’m Gen X but we too are caught up in this quest for perfection. Thanks for the reminder.

What a great read. Gives you a lot to think about. I never looked at or thought of some of the things that I read about in this article it was eye-opening
